Body Contouring
Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure performed by a healthcare provider for weight loss and body sculpting to reduce and eliminate contour specific, undesired fat pockets.
The mesotherapy procedure works by targeting receptors on fat cells that produce lipogenesis (fat production, alpha receptors) and lipolysis (fat breakdown, beta receptors). Alpha receptors that cause lipogenesis (fat production) are stimulated to produce fat when you eat foods containing fat, amino acids, carbohydrates, hormones, or alcohol. Beta receptors that cause lipolysis (fat breakdown) are naturally present in our body. Below the waist, women have 6 to 8 alpha receptors for every single beta receptor. This is the main reason some women have trouble losing fat in their abdomen, thighs, and buttocks since their bodies are naturally designed to retain fat in those specific areas.
Prior to the treatment, a physician obtains a medical history and examination. The physician will then select and compound a patient-specific formula that contains several medications to block alpha receptors and stimulate beta receptors. Once the formula is injected into the targeted areas, the solution slowly diffuses into the fat causing it to break down.
Multiple treatments are recommended, and the number of treatments required varies for each individual.
