What is Artefill ™ ?

Artefill ™ is the first and only FDA-approved permanent injectable filler for wrinkle correction that fulfills the promise of long-lasting results. It's a

combination of 80 percent purified collagen and 20 percent Artefill ™ Precision-Filtered Microspheres.

How does it work?

Artefill ™ is a dual-acting wrinkle filler. Once injected directly beneath the wrinkle into the deep portion of the skin, the collagen in Artefill visibly corrects the wrinkle. As the collagen portion fades over time, the microspheres remain permanent and stimulate natural collagen production, providing lasting support and smooth, natural results.

How does it differ from other fillers?

Temporary fillers, such as Restylane, Juvederm, Radisse and Sculptra, are absorbed by the body, requiring frequent repeat injections to maintain results. Artefill ™ is different. It's the first and only soft tissue filler product on the market designed to last. Its microspheres provide the permanent support needed for long-lasting wrinkle correction. It's also one of the only products to report a parient satisfaction rating of over 90 percent during it;s pivotal clinical trial.

What is the procedure like?

This safe procedure is performed in my office and takes less then a half hour to administer. Generally, there is virtually no discomfort at the time of treatment, since the filler is mixed with an anesthetic. Slight redness and swelling can be expected, but results are immediate and will continue to improve over time. Daily activities can be resumed right away.

Is ArteFill™ safe?

Yes, Artefill ™ has proven to be a safe, effective derma filler for the correction of wrinkles. It's been used for more than a decade throughout Europe and Canada under the name Artecoll and received FDA approval in October 2006. As a safety precaution, I will administer a skin test prior to treatment to make sure you're not allergic to the bovine collagen in Artefill ™ . I've been using Artefill ™ for almost five years now and have never had a complication. Since its launch, over 20,000 patients have been safely treated throughout the US.

How soon will I see results?

Results are immediate and visible, with no downtime after the procedure, and will continue to improve over time. Results of the treatment can last 10 years or more, while non-permanent fillers are absorbed after just one year.

Where can Artefill ™ be injected?

Artefill ™ is FDA approved for the treatment of nasolobial folds (smile lines), but I have also used it off-label with beautiful results for lip augmentation, acne scars, eye brow lifts, cheek volume, jawlines and more.

Can it take the place of surgery?

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning, or blading, is an exfoliating treatment that provides an alternative to chemical peels or microdermabrasion and is a good choice for anyone who has fine facial hair (peach fuzz), extremely sensitive skin, redness or rosacea, or visible facial veins. The dermaplaning treatment is done by an experienced aesthetician who uses a blade to gently exfoliate the outer layer of dead skin cells and remove fine facial hair commonly known as "peach fuzz". A noticeable improvement is immediate with smoother texture and fresh skin appearance. Hair returns softly and will not become coarser because of the treatment. Even products penetrate the skin better following this treatment.

Why doesn’t the hair grow back thicker?

Fine facial “peach fuzz” is one of the two types of hair that everyone has. It’s called vellous hair and is the fine translucent hair that you can see if you look closely on women’s face, chest and back. The other type of hair is terminal hair, which is the coarser hair you see on the head, under the arms, in the pubic area, brows, and on the lower face in men. Because Vellous hair is so fine and different from terminal hair, cutting it does not make it grow in thicker or feel stubbly afterwards.

How often is this procedure performed?

The normal skin growth cycle is around 30 days and since dermablading removes about 2-3 weeks-worth of dead skin cells, it’s best to wait about 3-4 weeks between treatments.

Can blading or dermaplaning be performed in the same visit as a chemical peel?

A chemical peel done immediately after dermaplaning is an excellent way to make sure that the peel penetrates deeper and more evenly. Lactic acid peels will hydrate and further exfoliate dry and normal skin while a glycolic acid peel is strong enough to combine with dermaplaning for oily skin.

What skin types/conditions can be treated?

The only skin that probably shouldn’t be treated with dermaplaning is acne-prone skin. The oil from the sebaceous glands needs to travel up and connect with the vellous hair in order for it to be excreted.  If the hair is removed and the oil builds up, the glands are obstructed and cause more breakouts.
